WHY ONE-SENTENCE PER DAY JOURNALING IS NOT ENOUGH

There are some journals out there that are for one-sentence per day. Or a paragraph per day. These are great summary journals. They are very shallow and short and simple. Those types of journals are great if you do not want to do anything more. I have a couple and use them. They give me the bullet of what has happened. It's more like a diary. Nonetheless, this is not the type of journaling that this blog is focused on. Rather, thig blog's goal is to help us live better lives and be better people. How we do that is by not living shallow, surface-skim-only lives. We live better lives and are better people when we think, go deeper, reflect, think, learn, think, apply, think, analyze, think, and repeat. I say that this way intentionally. Now, let me explain. We live better lives, and are better people, when we think things through (all the way through) and go deeper. Period. Thinking things through is the key. Journaling provides us the means to do this. THIS BLOG APPEARS TO GO ALL OVER THE PLACE

This blog might seem to go all over the place, from subject to subject. Well, it does. I will not deny that. So, here's a tip: It helps to look up the "labels" that catch your attention. You also might want to read all the way through each blog post and find something that grabs your attention and journal about that. Since this blog does go subject to subject, with no apparent rhyme or reason, I am taking all of the blog posts and will put them into books that have order and will make more sense. I will take these blog posts, edit them, expand them, add additional material, and organize them and publish them as several small books over time. But in the meanwhile, the "labels" are your friend, along with the "search this blog" feature.

What Do You Hope to Do with This Journal?

With each journal, I recommend answering these questions in your journal. This is your plan for that journal. Toward the end of that journal, you can see if you accomplished your objectives or not. Journaling Questions and Prompts: What are your plans with this journal? What do you hope to do with this journal? What is the purpose of this journal? What do you want to learn with this journal? What do you want to change with this journal? What does this journal mean to you?

STREAMS-OF-CONSCIOUSNESS JOURNALING (SOC)

WHAT IS SOC JOURNALING? There is a journaling practice called Streams-of-Consciousness (SOC) Journaling. This is where you write everything, and anything, that comes to mind within a certain period of time. The time intervals can be 10, 15, or 20 minutes... Or anything in-between. I recommend 10 or 15-minute intervals. A SOC IS SOME OF THE MOST IMPORTANT JOURNALING YOU/WE CAN DO I cannot stress this enough. It’s one of the most underused tools and types of journaling. Please do not skip this, avoid it, or fail to do it. It’s extremely beneficial for so many reasons and on so many levels. HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU DO A SOC? I recommend doing this at least once a day. Preparing Your Journal (Preparing to Journal): The Second Step in Journaling (Journal Setup)

Now that we have decided what journaling medium we are going to use in our journaling (digital or paper), it's time to setup our journals. JOURNAL SETUP How do you begin your journal? You might wonder. I'm glad you asked. Let me share my suggestions. Come up with a name or title for your journal. What do you want to call your journal? Example of what I call mine: "2022 SD Journal #20." Huh. What does that mean? I put the year, my initials, and then the number of the journal that it is. Prior to #1, I never called them a number (a volume number) and I see my error now. It's so much easier just to say or write, "Journal #20," than "2022 The Journal of Stacy Duplease #20. " That's the abbreviated name of your journal. Then, in the next line, I call it something that the rest of the world would understand if they find my journal. Preparing Your Journal (Preparing to Journal): The First Step in Journaling (Journal Setup)

Whether you are going to start journaling for the first time, or are preparing to do the January 2022 blog posts for Christian Journaling (Bible and Prayer Journaling), then it is time to begin with preparing your journal. So, how do we go about preparing our journals? First, we need to decide what journaling medium we are going to do: paper or digital journaling. If you journal already, then you know your answer. Which do you think you will use? Why? (Journal about this once you get your journal set up.) If you are not sure, answer these two questions: How do you write your grocery list? Do you do it on your phone or tablet (digitally) or with paper and pen (or pencil)? How do you keep a schedule? Do you do it on your phone or tablet (digitally) or with paper and pen (or pencil)? Whatever your answer, that might be how you want to do your journaling. So what type of journaling do you plan on doing? Why? (Journal about this once you get your journal set up.)
